Urns & Memorabilia

Did you know that, in Australia, there is no official governing body regarding the after-life care of your pets? This means that there is no standard to which a pet crematorium can officially be held – until the IAOPCC came along.

Just what is the IAOPCC?

IAOPCC stands for International Association of Pet Cemeteries and Crematories. Founded in Chicago, USA, in 1971, the IAOPCC is a non-profit organisation dedicated to advancing the standards, ethics and professionalism of pet crematoriums and cemeteries all around the world. In fact, the IAOPCC has members in more than fifteen countries, including right here in Australia, where Pets in Peace has wholeheartedly embraced their standards and ethics. Being a member of IAOPCC means that our aftercare is of gold standard, closely mirroring the business structure and ethics found in human funeral homes and crematoriums. Our premises and facilities have been thoroughly inspected and have been required to pass the strict IAOPCC accreditation program. In short, we treat your pet as though they were human.

The importance of these standards to Pets in Peace

Pets in Peace became an accredited funeral home under the IAOPCC after Pets in Peace owners Bev and Martin discovered the organisation online in 2013. “In 2014, we paid our own way over to America to attend the IAOPCC pet cremation conference,” Martin recalls. “We spoke to a lot of pet crematorium operators from around the world, and we left the conference knowing that the IAOPCC have the type of high standard that we wanted to meet. We came back to Australia and worked for almost eight months on renovating and adding to our business model so that we could reach and surpass all the qualities and standards needed to have our pet crematorium become accredited by the IAOPCC.”

In the same year, Pets in Peace “presented the association with a 200-page application and underwent an in-depth vetting system by the IAOPCC to become the first fully accredited pet crematorium in Australia and New Zealand”, says to Martin. Now in 2019, our second facility has gone through the testing program and our northside pet crematorium has now also received accreditation status!

Martin encourages guests to see the difference for themselves. “All our facilities have an open-door policy for any member of the public to come and visit. We have full mortuary care equal to human funeral homes viewing rooms and Australian-made pet cremating units.”

For us at Pets in Peace, incorporating the IAOPCC into our practice was essential to providing the very best service we possibly could. From cremation staff licensed to assist with human aftercare, to integrated tracking system for all animals in our care, the IAOPCC dictates the way we operate as a funeral home and assists us in creating the perfect memory of your beloved pet. We firmly believe that pet crematoriums around Australia should become a part of this organisation in order to assure the best treatment of your pet during aftercare.

As of the publishing of this blog post, Pets in Peace is the only pet crematorium in Australia to receive accreditation with the International Association of Pet Cemeteries and Crematories (IAOPCC).
