CITIZENS OF HEAVEN
I always think I’m passing through;
Hello to her; goodbye to you.
Through many lands I’ve travelled now –
To each I give a “thank you” bow.
I had a little puppy once;
Who many thought was just a dunce.
But when I looked her in the eye –
I knew, she too, would never die.
One word, that day;
Did Muffin say –
When asked if she knew that our God
Could love a little puppy dog….?
She answered “Yes”; light in her eyes;
More bright than all earth’s summer skies.
I guess she knew, like I do too –
That we are only passing through.

Perhaps animals do not speak because they fear us…But all things are possible with God. This “Icon Poem “, written for children, draws on the Biblical story of Balaam, the Donkey and the Angel. The story is related in the Book of Numbers. Ch.22. (See also Isaiah 11.6 – the poem looks forward to the Messianic age. One could also cite amazing passages in Revelation. Ezekiel etc.,))
